Powerseller Headstart: How To Sell On Ebay

by Fran Armstrong

It is a bit intimidating to join eBay, which is a community that includes the elite and the power sellers, but doing this very thing is a very wise move! Step back a bit and realize that as with everything with this life, as a definite rule, each and every person has to make a first step. So don't be overwhelmed too much and be intimidated by your fellow eBay users, everyone has to start somewhere.

On how to sell on eBay, the most basic first step of course is obviously to become a registered user. You can't sell anonymously in eBay. Even though it's a simple task and needs not much explanation and is basically a no-brainer to do, there are quite a few advantageous things that can be said to help you be successful on how to sell on eBay in creating your username.

Registering an account on eBay is absolutely free and is open to everyone. Some sellers on eBay though choose to register more than a single user name. For some of these sellers, they may want to discover how to sell on eBay by trying out different types of product lines.

By using a unique user name for each product line they can avoid the risk of gambling the reputation of using only a single username to sell different types of merchandise. So even if a certain line of merchandise does badly in the market, the reputation of the other registered account won't be affected at all. As we can see, in situations like this, just like in real life, the first step is, more often than not, far too crucial to be neglected. It's best to be prepared and avoid harmful mistakes!

There are a lot of methods on how to sell on eBay successfully. One method that eBay sellers use is by creating a separate user name to purchase merchandise from other eBay sellers, and use another user name to sell it to the eBay market. Through this method you are able to conceal where you are getting your products from.

Like businesses in the real world eBay businesses have their suppliers of products. Either they supply the merchandise themselves where they previously owned them for a certain amount of time, or they purchase it from others. Many have discovered how to sell on eBay successfully by acquiring their products from other eBay sellers from a cheaper price and then offering the same product with a higher price for profit.

The reason the item is sold with a separate account is so that your trade secret would remain secret, more specifically, your product source. Since your online identity in eBay, your username is public, if your source is discovered then possibility arises that they would instead purchase the items you provide straight from your sources for a much cheaper price. And that would hurt your market significantly, especially when the words spreads out.

Another possibility is that competition may arise from this. Other eBay sellers having discovered where you get your merchandise will purchase those same things as well from your source and sell them to others on eBay. Hence your buying audience is shared with others. The more competition that arises, the worse it will do to you and your profit. An inevitable result of these events then is the loss of control of prices, since many others arose to compete in the market with you; the price isn't that much upon you anymore and you have to match others, the worst of which is an increase in prices and people would find your products too expensive. So to avoid all these, a simple remedy is done where one username is used to buy on eBay, and another to sell on eBay. This way your sources are concealed as to where you get your merchandise from.

If methods like this are employed, or even others in using different user names, you can still use the same password for all of your eBay accounts. Though you can use a single same password for all of them you are required to have a unique email address for each user name. This is simplified quite easily by forwarding all your emails to a main account. Thus you can manage all emails received from your eBay accounts from a single place.
